VIDEO: Sound Sculpture Live / 音響彫刻ライブ

Here is the video from “Sound Sculpture Live” in Nov. 2016. It took me a while to upload (I know it’s 2.5 years ago…) but now it’s ready! These sound sculptures (music sculptures) are made by Baschet Brothers in 1969 for Expo’70 in Osaka and later restored. These were giant pieces, all metal of different shapes - plates, sheets, thick and thin poles, screw, wires, spring, long, short, etc. You hit, rub, shake, do whatever you wish to create interesting sounds. Maybe there still is a way to make sound that I don’t know yet. It was such a pleasure to be able to play these instruments and exciting to collaborate with the wonderful dancer, Hiromi Miyakita. I remember, because of the way I played those instruments, I could not see her dance. So I tried to feel her from back of my head (don’t know if I succeeded)… We were entirely improvising this moment to fill the space with this unusual sound scape and beautiful human movement. I think it worked.

このビデオ、2016年11月に京都芸大で行われた”音響彫刻ライブ”に出演した時の模様です。この音響彫刻たちはBaschet Brothersの作品で1969年に大阪万博EXPO’70のために製作されたもので、その後修復されて現代に形を残すものであります。私が対峙した音響彫刻たちは巨大で全部金属でできています。そして板状だったりぺらぺらの紙状だったり、細い棒、太い棒、ネジ、ワイヤー、バネなど様々な形をしている。それを叩いたり、こすったり、振ったりしてとにかく音を鳴らす。おそらくまだ他にも私の知らない音を鳴らす方法があるのではないかと思います。この音響彫刻を演奏している時間は至福の時間でありました。そして素晴らしいダンスパフォーマンスでこの20分強の時間を共有そして共演してくださった宮下裕美さんとは本当に自然な時間で、今でも思い出しますが、演奏中は宮北さんが見えないんです、というかほとんど見れないんです。なので後頭部で彼女を感じるんだっ、なんて気持ちで演ってました。効果があったかどうかはさておいて、、、。

これは完全に普段聞き慣れない未知の音と人間の体の美しい動きでその空間を満たす、即興のパフォーマンスです。良い感じでできたと思います。
