Yusuke Yamamoto (channel U, Golden Monkeys)

Born in Hyogo, Japan, Yusuke Yamamoto began studying the organ at age 5, percussion at age 11 and soon joined a youth symphony orchestra. He majored in classical percussion at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo. When his interests later turned to improvisation and jazz, he was awarded a full scholarship in 1990 for studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in Boston, Yusuke studied the vibraphone with Gary Burton and Ed Saindon. He moved to New York City in 1995, where he formed the group Golden Monkeys and released its first self-titled album in 1998.

As a multi-instrumental player, Yusuke plays vibraphone, percussion, drums, keyboard and flute. He has performed, toured and recorded with a wide variety of musicians in the US, Japan, Europe, Canada and Mexico. His performances and recordings include the Broadway musical FELA! (2010), Blue Man Group's special appearances, "Strange Love" with Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which became the closing theme of the Disney movie Frankenweenie (Tim Burton, 2012).

Yusuke has produced five albums as a leader, soundtrack pieces for SONY PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 6 (2013) and Gran Turismo Sport (2017), and music for TV commercials. He has contributed to countless releases as a sideman. In 2018, Yusuke performed a solo set for the concert series, Ambient Church in Brooklyn, New York. In 2019, he was invited by the Apple store in Kyoto, Japan, to perform and to hold a workshop on improvisational ambient music.

Yusuke’s most recent release is a solo ambient album, “Music for vibraphone marimba and synthesizer” the first album under his own name.

Based in New York, Yusuke continues to produce music as channel U and Golden Monkeys, and collaborates with musicians from around the globe.

Recently new project, Moon Radio has been started with singer Julia Haltigan. New album will be out soon.

山本祐介 (channel U, Golden Monkeys)

兵庫県生まれ。幼少の頃からオルガンに親しみ作曲を始める。国立音楽大学で打楽器を専攻。卒業後、1990年に渡米しボストンのバークリー音楽大学へ全額奨学金を得て入学。ヴィブラフォンをゲイリーバートン(Gary Burton)、エドセイドン(Ed Saindon)の両氏に師事。その頃から現地のクラブ等で活動を始める。95年、ニューヨークに拠点を移し、様々なジャンルの音楽シーンにて演奏活動を重ねる。1998年に初のリーダーアルバム「Golden Monkeys」を発表。同時期からアメリカ、日本はもとよりヨーロッパ、カナダ、メキシコにおいてGolden Monkeys, channel U, Chimp Beams, Dizzy Ventilatorsなど、様々なグループとツアーを行う。また、多種多様な音楽ジャンルにおいてレコーディング、作曲、アレンジや、TVのCM音楽も手がけている。山本のソロユニットchannel Uから３作品を発表。Tim Burton監督のディズニー映画「Frankenweenie」のエンドテーマ曲となった「Strange Love」の制作に多数の楽器で参加。また、SONY プレイステーションの看板ゲーム、"グランツーリスモ６と”グランツーリスモスポーツ”の収録曲を提供。ニューヨークのブロードウェイミュージカル「FELA!」やブルーマングループのスペシャルイベントやTV番組の収録に参加。2018年、全米で展開するイベント「Ambient Church」にて打楽器とシンセサイザーによるソロパフォーマンスで参加する、また京都のApple Storeにてアンビエント音楽のワークショップを行うなど、ソロとしての新しい展開を見せている。2020年に初のYusuke Yamamoto名義でのアルバム「Music for vibraphone, marimba and synthesizer」を発表。2022年にはアルバム「Golden Monkeys 2」を発表。また、長年にわたって様々な打楽器アンサンブルの作品を発表、世界中の打楽器奏者によって演奏されている。現在シンガー/コンポーザーのJulia Haltiganと立ち上げたポップでノスタルジックな新しいプロジェクト Moon Radioで躍進中！

ヴィブラフォン、パーカッション、ドラム、キーボード等を操るマルチプレイヤーとして、またプロデューサーとして自己のプロジェクトを中心にして、ニューヨークを拠点にソロでの楽曲制作やあるいは世界中の音楽家とのコラボレーションなどで多彩な活動を続けている。
